Unlike the Covid-19 pandemic which equally hit hard all businesses, especially the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the movement control order (MCO) implemented by the government does not have the same, equal impact on businesses. For starters, those non-essential businesses will have to close shop for the entire duration of the MCO which obviously means zero revenue for them throughout this period. In contrast, those businesses categorised as essential services can still operate albeit with less customers due to the social distancing measures and curtailment of daily business operation hours that the MCO imposed – with good reasons of course – on them.
