Police have detained a prominent NGO activist who was accused of sexual assault. Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim was quoted as saying that the suspect would have his statement recorded before being released on police bail. The arrest was pursuant to a police report lodged by a trainee doctor who claimed he was sexually assault on Nov 4 last year. Malaysiakini is withholding the name of the activist as the case has not been brought to court and to protect the identities of the complainants. The activist had denied the allegations as malicious, and that his accuser had an axe to grind after losing a civil suit.
