The MACC has arrested Johor Bahru City Council mayor Adib Azhari Daud over alleged corruption.The Malay Mail reported that the 60-year-old was detained at 3pm yesterday on suspicion of receiving bribes from contractors to approve projects.The kickbacks allegedly happened back when Adib was the Iskandar Puteri City Council mayor, a post he held from Nov 2017 to Nov 2019.It quoted Johor MACC director Azmi Alias on the matter.“A remand application on the suspect will be made tomorrow (Aug 11) at the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court,” he said.According to the news portal, Adib was apprehended at the Johor MACC office after being questioned, marking the first time a sitting mayor has been arrested for alleged corruption.The mayor is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
