Human rights group Amnesty International Malaysia has launched an online petition campaign to urge Singapore President Halimah Yaakob to halt the execution of the Malaysian national Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam, which is scheduled for Nov 10.It also wants a moratorium on all executions as a step towards the full abolition of the death penalty.“Taking people’s lives is a cruel act in itself but to hang a person convicted merely of carrying drugs, amid chilling testimony that he might not even fully understand what is happening to him, is despicable,” the group said on Twitter yesterday, referring to Nagaenthran reported intellectual disabilities.It urged members of the public to write an appeal to Halimah to demand a commutation of his sentence and a moratorium on executions through its website.Nagaenthran was sentenced to death in 2010 for trafficking 42.72g of heroin.The Singap…
