PETALING JAYA: Marriages and divorces are on the decline, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).In its latest report, the department said that 2020 recorded 184,589 marriages, a 9.4% decline from the 203,661 recorded in 2019. “The median age for brides went from 27 years (2019) down to 26 years (2020). Meanwhile, the median age of grooms remains at 28 years. The decrease in the number of marriages was contributed by a 1.8% drop in the number of Muslim marriages in 2020 (145,202) as compared to 2019 (147,847),” DOSM said in the report released yesterday.
